Brooklyn Nibbles: Brick Oven Gallery Morphs Into Kenny’s Trattoria

October 9th, 2008 · 4 Comments

This is Kenny’s Trattoria, which our friends at Eater reported on recently. It’s the successor to one of our Burg nabe favorites, the Brick Oven Gallery which closed a couple of months ago. Well, the owner has made good on his promise to return. The new places is described as “an Italian restaurant with a menu offering homemade pasta dishes, including a homemade ravioli of the day, and several chicken, pork, beef and seafood dishes. Patrons of Brick Oven Gallery will recognize some of the dishes such as the Brooklyn Caviar, Brick Oven Shrimp, Orichietti and the same over sized salads.” It’s at 7 Withers St., between N. 9 and Union Avenue. That would be Kenny, we think, sitting in the window. We’re relieved that Brooklyn Caviar lives!

Yep, that’s Kenny! Just ate here the other night, good stuff. The seating in the tiny front of the house is minimal, and tile floors make it loud, but I think I overheard Kenny say there was a lot of room in a back yard, so perhaps there’s some glorious outdoor seating to be unveiled next summer.

Two other restaurants opened and quickly closed in this location in the last couple of years, but my bet is that Kenny lifts the curse. I’d love it if he opened during the day as a cafe, the patio & glass doors would make for great coffee-nursing, and once (if?) all these stupid big new buildings around it start to fill, I’d think he’d get plenty of business to support daytime hours.

    WOW, WOW, WOW.

I came to this country 10 years ago from Napoli. Having eaten at the Brick Oven Gallery prior and feeling back at home with the great pizze – I knew I must try the new restaurant!
Kenny’s Trattoria truly takes the dishes to the next level. I enjoyed the mussels very much and had also the gnocchi co gorgonzola. Molto Bene!! Bravo e Buona Fortuna a Kenny.
