The arch under the Manhattan Bridge was reopened to the public yesterday with some minor fanfare and Dumbo NYC had full coverage of the event. The new design from Rogers Marvel appears above. The goal is to have the renovation complete by 2009 when the bridge hits the century mark, but fundraising for improvements and programming would continue beyond that. The vast spaces under the bridge are a little off putting, but we assume that with proper design they can be humanized and made into useful public spaces.
