More Park Slope Retail News: Beacon’s Closet Moving, Not Closing

August 28th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Yesterday, a GL reader wrote with alarm, wondering if Beacon’s Closet on Fifth Avenue (between President and Union) in the Slope might be closing. The email read as follows:

I saw on Trulia this morning that the Beacons Closet space on 5th Avenue is for rent for 8500 beginning November 15th. Can we find out if they are closing? I’m hoping they are looking for a larger space in Park Slope actually, because the place is always so packed!

The answer is that, in fact, they will be moving to a bigger space. Someone at Brooklynian emailed the store and got back the following response: “Beacon’s Closet Park Slope is moving to a larger space on 5th Avenue. Fear not. The move will happen around November. Nothing else about the store is changing. Love, Beacon’s”

Something’s screwy with 5th Ave rents, considering A&S Pork Store has to move because their landlord is raising the rent from 5k to 12k and this space is double that for 8500.
