Will a Ticket for Wine Possession Mess with the Coop Board?

July 7th, 2008 · 8 Comments

Here from the Park Slope Parents email list forwarded to us by a community-minded PSP member who keeps us supplied, is a riveting question about getting a ticket for drinking wine in Prospect Park and coop board approval:

My friend got a ticket today in Prospect Park for being at a small 8-person picnic gathering where there was one wine bottle out in the open. 4 cops came up and gave everyone a ticket for alcohol possession. Does anyone know if this type of ticket is easy to fight? She wasn’t drinking any wine nor does she drink in general. Also, as a side note she is trying to purchase a co-op apartment and is soon going to be reviewed by the co-op approval board. Should she worry about this citation?

Four cops on one bottle of wine? Was it a French, an Italian or a California? In terms of the coop board, a good wine should go over well, but if it’s nondescript stuff, it could be trouble.

Spells the end of civilization, or what was left of it.

This is seriously lazy journalism; You just sit back and wait for the emails to be forwarded to you… Wow!

This is not legally a crime, it’s a civil violation (a classification below misdemeanors). The coop board will probably only ask whether she’s been convicted of a crime. Not a big deal.

She could fight it. It might be thrown out by the magistrate.

    or it might not.

Ever hear of pouring the wine into plastic cups and hiding the bottle?

Ah, another fine whine. Typical for this blog.
Pay the damned $25, and save the court fight for bigger and weightier things.

    – Exactly “plastic cups and hiding the bottle” !!!

    – Agreed with the “Lazy journalism” comment, too bad this blog has sometimes some good stuff… In another hand come on people, this site is free right?

    – Laughed to “Pay the damned $25”

    – My 3 cents: get a roof/garden or move to the surbubs if u want to drink in your garden

    – Sometimes a blog is just about the comments posted by anonymous! 🙂
