The big news this morning is that Frank Gehry has released new renderings of the Atlantic Yards development. In the new set, Miss Brooklyn is replaced by a significantly shorter 511-foot building known as “B1” or Building One. Mr. Gehry tells Jotham Sederstrom in the Daily News–which has the reveal of the new renderings: “My enthusiasm for Atlantic Yards has grown and grown until arriving at our current design, which works better with the surrounding area than it ever had before. Miss Brooklyn, now called Building One, has been slimmed down and has become more festive, resulting in a very unique office building.” Meanwhile, today’s Post has what it calls the “nightmare vision” of Atlantic Yards: “Renderings commissioned by the Municipal Art Society and obtained by The Post reveal for the first time how Bruce Ratner’s controversial project in Brooklyn could look – and remain for many years – should the developer continue facing massive delays.” (The aerial shots were taken by photographer Jonathan Barkey who has done much Atlantic Yards-related photography and work.)

This looks like a post-earthquake disaster. Or a child’s first attempt at a city-scape diorama. Everything looks like it’s collapsing, which- while I appreciate the ironic value of such a visual pun- this doesn’t belong in Brooklyn.

Gehry has used the image of a fish many times in his buildings. Look! A giant red herring.
