Over the Weekend: Slope Airplane Noise

July 7th, 2008 · 3 Comments

link-asterisk.jpgPark Slope residents have been increasingly upset about the LaGuardia landing pattern that takes planes over Prospect Park. They say the noise has been getting worse and there was a report that a new landing beacon would alter the flight path. Not so. The FAA says there’s no plan to change the landing pattern.–NYT

For the love of God. Planes have to fly somewhere. Could this neighborhood possibly get any whinier?

Did you read the article? How lazy can a NY Times writer get, or are there lower standards for the weekly sections? It is truly possible that the writer didn’t talk to a live being whatsoever … just pieced together the article by reading blogs and probably e-mailing a very busy FAA spokesperson?
The whole article steals from the weekly Brooklyn fishwrap and a few lousy blogs. At least this time the NYT did it with attribution.
Getting close to Jayson Blair in Tutti Pasta territory.
The Old Grey Lady has seen better times, indeed.

Sure the planes have to fly somewhere. They used to fly over the Hudson River instead of Brooklyn neighborhoods. In addition, the lawsuits from Connecticut and Rockland county successfully redirected traffice that used to fly over them to now fly over us. We are asking that the flight controllers alternate flight patterns instead of consistently sending them over Park Slope. Sing the petition at bbparkslope.com/psqol
