Serial Wiper Thieves on the Loose in the Slope?

September 3rd, 2008 · 3 Comments

We’ve already run items about a spike in car break ins in the Slope, now we apparently have windshield wiper thieves, indicating that times may be getting very tough indeed. From the Park Slope Parents emailbag: “Twice in the past week we have had our wiper blades stolen off of our car overnight. Has this been happening to anyone else? At first I thought random vandalism, but now I’m starting to get paranoid!” It has to be kids taking stuff, right?

well it doesn’t sound like random thievery to me… I’d look into a shocker or krazy glue…

If you are a car owner and have a GPS, for god’s sake take your GPS with you when you park.
Our block has had three break-ins in the past week, each for a GPS!

This happened to me recently in Cobble Hill. The would be thieves completely bent the arm of the wiper to the extent that the arm and blade needed to be replaced for $96. I’d be curious if thieves are targeting particular makes. My car was an ’09 Matrix, merely a week from purchase date.
