Gowanus “Bat Cave” Gets a Friendly Corporate Banner

July 29th, 2008 · 9 Comments

The Gowanus landscape has been slightly redecorated with this banner that has appeared atop the old power plant (aka the Bat Cave) between Third Avenue and the Gowanus Canal. The building, which is an old subway power plant, sits on property that was once the possible site of developer Shaya Boymelgreen’s Gowanus Village but that has been put on the market for about $27 million. As for the new banner, sent to us by a special GL Correspondent, it’s visible from far and wide, as the building is one of the most prominent in the area. Excellent viewing of the “No More Corporate Rule” message from the F Train!

How do you think the daddies of the trustafarian kids who painted that got their money?
    Worthless.

Asshats. Let’s see what they could do with the property if you gave it to them.

I, for one, kind of like it.

I like it for the naivete. Most of us have gone through that phase: Wanna-be crusader looking for a crusade, armed with thin understanding of the world.

How did “they” get up there?? An insider job!

I don’t think the kids who periodically squat in that building are trustafarians. More like runaways and druggies. Live a few blocks from there and see them from time to time on the street. Those are not well kids. Hooking I’d thinking, underfed, often drunk, deeply not doing okay in the world. Kids in trouble, not Brown students slumming for the summer.

I don’t think the “kids” did it, they aren’t really around anymore anyway. This was done by someone who had the forethought to measure etc. and paint upside down. They planned.

and also as far as the naivete, have the corporations really done us right?

Haha! I like it. I mean, it IS a little naive, but at least they’re trying.
