Development Notebook: Avalon Fort Greene Rising Like Wild

February 17th, 2009 · 1 Comment

The Avalon Fort Greene, across Myrtle Avenue from Toren is going up like gangbusters. For those of you who like construction porn, we’ve got a small gallery to get the juices flowing. The building–a rental–will ultimately be a 42-story, 650-unit rental development at 159 Myrtle Avenue. Will it rent, given the other units going up and some condos likely to go rental? Stay tuned.

Not going up like gangbusters this week. Ain’t nothin’ happening there – the place is dead. They had problems raising the cement pump a couple of weeks ago – section arrived very late. They need to raise it again, and again no section. But they also left the next brace for the tower crane half attached, and four sections on the ground. There’s no one working on any floor or outside, as far as I can tell. I think they should leave it just like it is, a monument to overdevelopment and bad urban planning. And convert the half dozen empty lots nearby to baseball and soccer fields.
