Shooting Friday Night in Gowanus or Just “Gunplay”?

January 25th, 2009 · 10 Comments

We have no answer here, just a question submitted by a GL Reader:

I hear from one of my neighbors that there was a shooting last night, a few minutes before midnight, on 12th St between 3rd & 4th. Unclear if someone was shot or if it was ‘just’ gun-play. Any word on this?

We couldn’t find any info, but maybe someone in the neighborhood knows.

I have only lived in the area for 47 years and can’t keep up with the changes…

The “boarder” is the middle of 4th Avenue.

Don’t most people think the border between PS and Gowanus is 4th Ave?

What exactly is ‘gun play’. Shooting off a gun anywhere except while hunting is never play.

My understanding of Gowanus is: West of 5th, East of Hoyt, South of Warren, North of 15th, or the Prospect Expressway (your choice).

Given the neighborhood was made up to inflate real estate prices, I don’t know if you should worry too much about the “boarders”. But then again the same is true for nearly every neighborhood in South Brooklyn since 1960.

Rick, the boarders between Park Slope and Gowanus are as follows: If you see people with double wide carriages you are in Park Slope. If you see a guy with a shopping cart loaded with garbage and car fenders you are in Gowanus.

the borders of Boerum Hill as proposed by CB2 is east of court to west of 4th ave – everything until 6th ave is no man’s land – there is no “gowanus”
