Bklink: Curbed PriceChopper Visits Satori in Gowanus

October 10th, 2008 · 2 Comments

link-asterisk.jpgPrices are coming down at Satori in Gowanus, the building we used to call the Bunker. “Let’s take Unit A-3B, the top priced 2BR originally listed at $925,000. It’s taken a $100,000 hit. On the other hand, the mid-range 1BR Unit C-4B originally out there for $560,000 has only been trimmed to $530,000. It’s a little bit more dramatic with the studios, though. One listed at $475K has come down to $399K for its 499 square feet. That one kind of screams, ouch, and not in a very zen way.”–Curbed

I don’t think they will get any buyers. I was in there a few weeks ago and let me tell you something, the stairs are so steep and narrow that people would have to assemble furniture inside or buy really small stuff. The place is nice inside and looks great, but the stairs are going to have to be redone.

We just moved into the neighborhood, like two blocks away, and we walked by that place the other day and thought it was maybe a health food company or the headquarters of some flaky religion, but then we realized it was condos and we wondered what kind of crazy prices they’d be asking. Almost half a million for 500 sq ft on the Gowanus Canal? Even at $400k, we don’t know whether to feel sadness or schadenfreud for the buyers.
