Voting Line Update: Not So Bad at 10 in the Slope

November 4th, 2008 · 1 Comment

There have been reports of massive lines in some places in Brooklyn to vote. This is hot off the Park Slope Parents listserve:

Voting lines were okay at 10ish am for me–less than half an hour.
Definitely helps to know your district if you can breeze past longer lines for other districts (can check online for info). In my case the district was divided into tables for A-L and N-Z, with lines to first
get your white card and a second line for the voting booth. But not as bad as I expected at the mid-morning time. Not that anyone asked my opinion about kids, but just to say–I think it’s fine for kids to join if parents need them to, but not necessary to put young kids through the hassle of lining up and waiting just to experience democracy! There are other ways. . .

It is unclear from which polling place the report comes. Be prepared to invest some time in making history today.

schools were closed today (including my son’s preschool), so many parents were forced to bring their children with them out of sheer necessity. I’m sure that most parents would not want to force their children to wait in lines if they didn’t have to. We waited for about 1.5 hrs, but I was prepared & brought snacks, toys & books for my 3-yr-old. Luckily, he was very well-behaved.
