Grand Army Plaza Fountain Now Certified Very Clean

August 19th, 2008 · 5 Comments

The Bailey Fountain at Grand Army Plaza was a little sudsy yesterday morning after a detergent attack by an unknown culprit or culprits. The reader who sent us the photos wrote, “Some one must have poured detergent into the water last night. It was quite a sight. By the time we got out this morning to take the pictures, the parks department had already started cleaning up.” Reports that it was a dress rehearsal for a special event next week called the Summer of Suds in which every fountain in the borough will bubble to life are complete fabrications, and Mr. Bubbles has denied culpability.

When I was last in Paris, France 31 years ago (is it that long?) they were doing this in every fountain. Sort of amusing for some reason or other even if it is considered vandalism.

See how hard you laugh when you have to clean it. Or see the bill for cleaning it. Or see how harmless “soap bubbles” damage such fountains.

    Ha ha?

I am shocked that the consensus seems to be this is not funny, AT ALL. Come on.
