Development Notebook: Work Stopped at Burg Kaufman Hotel-Residential Project

August 19th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Looks like the big Gene Kaufman-designed hotel and apartment complex being built between N. 12 and N. 11 Streets and Bedford Ave. and Berry Street in Williamsburg has been hitting some bumps in the road. The development consists of a seven-story hotel and a six-story residential building whose official address is 135 N. 11 Street. The project has been hit with three separate Stop Work Orders this summer, the most recent of which came on August 11 for excavation work not conforming to approved plans. Meanwhile, the project has already attracted 17 complaints, the most recent of which was for, well, working in violation of the Stop Work Order. The DOB didn’t find any evidence of that when it dropped in a few hours later.

The most important thing for people calling in afterhours complaints is to insist that the 311 operator log their specific request to review the complaint AFTER HOURS. They will tell you that you cannot specify when they come out, but at least your objection is logged.

this pile driving at 7am everymorning is insane and outrageous. I live on Bedford across the street. How can it be legal for them to pile drive at 7am? Is anyone as outraged as I am?
